A POSTULATE IS AN ASSUMPTION that we accept as self-evidently true to enable a particular line of reasoning. Euclidean geometry was based on five postulates. Einstein’s theory of special relativity was based on two: 1. the laws of physics are the same for all observers in uniform motion relative to one another; 2. the speed of light in a vacuum is constant for all observers. Postulates are validated as their derivative theorems explain observed phenomena and make accurate predictions.
